Started in June, 2007, The Scattergood Program for the Applied Ethics of Behavioral Health is the first program in the United States dedicated to a comprehensive agenda of research and education in the ethics of behavioral health. The ScattergoodEthics Program is dedicated to discussion, research, and resource production for the field of behavioral health and applied ethics. The ScattergoodEthics Program is the first program in the United States dedicated to an examination of ethics in behavioral healthcare in a comprehensive way. The ScattergoodEthics Program engages in scholarly research; trains and educates clinicians and scholars in the area of behavioral health ethics; sponsors programs and public events; and generally promotes and advocates for ethical treatment and consideration of the broad field of behavioral healthcare. Housed at the University of Pennsylvania Center for Bioethics, the ScattergoodEthics Program is intended as a regional effort that welcomes all those active in the field of behavioral healthcare. In so doing, the ScattergoodEthics Program hopes to dramatically enrich the quality of dialogue and thinking in the field both regionally and nationally.

The Scattergood Program for the Applied Ethics of Behavioral Health is funded by a grant from the Scattergood Foundation and the Dean’s office of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
