Mental Illness & the Criminal Justice System
There are millions of individuals with serious mental illness involved in the criminal justice system. We examine ethical issues related to how (or if) mental healthcare is delivered to this population inside and outside of jails and prisons.
Subjects explored by the ScattergoodEthics Program include psychiatric deinstitutionalization, ethical conflicts involving care of incarcerated individuals with serious mental illness, and community-based care alternatives, and reform.
